The hjell stand tall, echoing the rugged lines of Norway’s mountains. These cod drying racks, essential for preserving stockfish, have long sustained communities, shaping Norway’s history and economy. Their striking lines, blending seamlessly into the landscape, have captivated the imagination of landscape photographers, where tradition and nature meet on the wild horizon.
Driving through the windswept landscape near Sammøya, I was captivated by the striking lines and angles of this skoggard. Traditionally used as a windbreak in coastal regions, its carefully crafted slats and sturdy supports create an interplay of textures that both resist and channel the elements. The raw beauty of this structure, set against the rugged hills, drew me in, and I couldn’t resist capturing its form in this composition.
Perched atop their pedestal, these winged creatures seem to hold up the world itself. Weathered by time, their bronze bodies bear the weight of history, a silent testament to Pittsburgh’s architectural grandeur. The celestial sphere above, adorned with symbols of the zodiac, evokes a sense of cosmic order, watched over by a council of ever-present pigeons.
